Court Gardener’s Establishment

Former residential and working building of the court gardener

Court Gardener’s Establishment

In connection with the expansion and redesign of the palace garden in the 19th century, the new "Court Gardener’s Establishment" was built in 1856/57 according to the design of architect Hermann Willebrand. The building served as the residence and working premises of the court gardener and was therefore located in close proximity to this garden area.

At that time

In 1856 – 1857, Hermann Willebrand built the necessary two-and-a-half-story court gardener’s homestead with a carriage house, stables, and a heated greenhouse on behalf of the grand duke.

Style

The forward-projected part of the building functions as a two-and-a-half-story residential building for the court gardeners. This building section is set in front of a hall structure behind it, which facilitates work processes in the greenhouse and cold house, and serves as a work and propagation hall. The centrally located and covered entrance combines the residential and work functions.
