Goat

Bronze statue by Stefan Thomas, 1981

Originally, the goat was not even on the goat market. In fact, she was assigned to graze on the Dreesch Land. Actually, the goat was supposed to become a cow. And actually, the goat market used to be called the fish market.

At least, that is how it is marked on the city map from 1747. The name Goat Market has been in use since 1843. And since the goat became uncomfortable among the cool new buildings on the former Frunse Street, now Martin Luther King Street, it found its scenic home in Schelfstadt in 1982. For many, the bronze animal is now a cult figure. Hipsterism. Every now and then, there is still some bleating.
