SG Dynamo Schwerin e.V.

Tradition since 1953

Dynamic, passionate, steeped in tradition – SG Dynamo Schwerin is a club to cheer for! For over 70 years, since its founding in 1953, the name has stood for exciting football in Schwerin.

As early as 1963, the traditional club achieved its long-awaited promotion to the first DDR league. In the following years, the Dynamos regularly competed at the top and even came close to reaching the Oberliga, the highest league, twice in 1975 and 1984. In 1975, during the promotion match to the Oberliga against 1. FC Union Berlin, the near-promoted team set a new spectator record with 10,900 fans in attendance.

The fans have experienced many unforgettable moments, such as the FDGB Cup quarterfinals in 1988/89 or the cup final in 1989/90, when Schwerin even represented Germany internationally. To this day, five players from SG Dynamo have made it to the Bundesliga: Andreas Reinke (HSV, FCK, Werder Bremen), Steffen Baumgart (FC Hansa Rostock, VfL Wolfsburg, Union Berlin), Mathias Stammann (Bayer Leverkusen, VfL Wolfsburg), Mathias Breitkreuz (Arminia Bielefeld, FC Hansa Rostock), and Jens Bochert (HSV, 2nd Division France).

Even in recent years, the traditional club has achieved great things: three consecutive promotions, returning to the Verbandsliga in 2021, and finally, making it to the Oberliga – the Dynamos are back at the top!
